Decision of the FMJD Executive Council on creation of Refugee player category
On its meeting of 11th August 2025 FMJD Executive Council decided to create new category of players – Refugee player. Refugee player is a natural person who can prove that she/he meets criteria of a refugee definition established by the International Olimpic Committee. According to this IOC definition, refugee is someone who has been forced to flee their country due to persecution, war, or violence and has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in particular social group.
Procedure of granting a status of Refugee player is to be started by application of a player which is to be sent to FMJD Secretary General and FMJD office. Player who is pretending to obtain Refugee player status has to provide all relevant documents proving previous country of residency, documents proving a new country of residency, as well as all relevant information for justification of fear of persecution in a country player has fled from.
FMJD Executive Council will consider each such application separately and will decide upon it on basis of information and documents submitted and available from other sources (if needed).
Refugee players will be given the right to play draughts in all draughts tournaments, including FMJD tournaments. Participation in the World or continental championship can be permitted to Refugee players by separate decision of the FMJD or continental federation respectively.
